We have quite a large chorus, but not really large enough to fill the magnificent set which our designer, Simon Higlett, has created. So we would love to pack the stage and present a real sense of the Roman community.

The entire scene takes about four and half minutes, but if we get it right it will be unforgettable for the audience and, I hope, quite an experience for those on stage, especially with our huge symphony orchestra down in the pit playing Puccini’s amazing score.

I should emphasise that there’s no singing involved, and the acting requirements are extremely simple! You’d be there to create the illusion of a packed church, while the professional singers around you do the heavy lifting.

I would be delighted if you felt able to help us with this. We’ll keep rehearsal to a minimum, and it will all be at the Grange. You would only be required to be with us until the end of the 45 minute Act One - after that, you’d be free to leave. Obviously you would all be costumed by our wardrobe department, although we may require you to provide the basic elements – shirt and trousers/ dress, shoes etc.

I realise that this is a big ask, but it would be a rare opportunity to be part of a huge opera with a cast of international soloists and a large production team. I genuinely think we’ll have a ball.
