When
Aretha Franklin stepped in for Pavarotti to sing Nessun Dorma at the Grammys,
she revealed the heart-opening vocal power that opera and soul have always had
in common.
This unforgettable evening will
trace the shared DNA of opera, soul, and gospel, moving between Puccini and Aretha
Franklin, Verdi and Etta James, Bellini and Nina Simone, as well as spirituals and
gospel celebration which share opera's emotional reach.
Conductor
Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser will lead the Welsh National Opera Orchestra,
joined by three exceptional vocalists making their debuts at The Grange
Festival.
South
African tenor Innocent Masuku was
a finalist on Britain's Got Talent,
where his performance of Nessun Dorma was watched by millions. He's joined by
American mezzo-soprano Melody Wilson,
recently of The Metropolitan Opera, Seattle Opera and Carnegie Hall. The
Juno-nominated soul and reggae singer Jah’Mila rounds
out the company, hailing from Jamaica and Canada
